The Wasserstoff-Gesellschaft Hamburg e.V., founded in 1989, aims to promote hydrogen as an environmentally friendly source of energy. For example, the organisation, led by chairman Nikolaus W. Schües (F. Laeisz), initiated projects such as W.E.I.T., in which six small lorries fuelled with hydrogen were driven around Hamburg. The organisation also acts as an intermediary agency between industrial companies, research groups and politicians in order to promote environmentally friendly energy concepts in Hamburg. Renewable Energy Hamburg Cluster associates Stadtreinigung Hamburg and Vattenfall Europe Innovation GmbH are among the corporate members. Overall, the Wasserstoff-Gesellschaft Hamburg has over 80 corporate and private members.
